Mechane

Terms of use

Last updated 8 October 2026

These terms are between you and The Alchemy Lab LLC ("Alchemy Lab", "we"), which makes Mechane. They cover this website and the Mechane service, and using either means you accept them. If your organisation has signed an agreement or an order with us, that agreement governs wherever it says something different.

They are written to be read. If any part is unclear, ask us at the address at the end.

1. Who may use Mechane

Mechane is for organisations and the people they let in. You must be at least 18. If you accept these terms for an organisation, you confirm that you may bind it.

2. Your organisation's deployment and accounts

Each customer has its own deployment. People sign in with their organisation's Microsoft account, or with a one-time link sent to an invited address. Your organisation decides who has access, and it is responsible for what its people do in the service.

Keep your sign-in to yourself, and tell us at once if you think someone else has used it.

3. Your data stays yours

What your organisation puts into the service belongs to it. We use it only to provide and secure the service, as the privacy policy describes. We never sell it, and we never use it to train AI models.

When your organisation leaves, we give it a copy of its database, then delete its deployment and database.

4. AI features

Some features use AI models made by Anthropic. They sort, summarise, draft and answer, and they can be wrong while sounding sure. Check what the AI says before you rely on it, above all its statements of fact. A person decides, not the AI, and your organisation is responsible for how it uses what the AI produces.

Your organisation can run the service with AI switched off, or use its own Anthropic key under its own agreement with Anthropic.

The AI is not for high-risk uses. It must not be used for, or changed into a system for, anything the EU AI Act lists as high-risk in its Annex III, such as recruiting or screening people, deciding anyone's promotion, pay or dismissal, handing out work by a person's behaviour or traits, monitoring or evaluating how people work, judging creditworthiness, or pricing life or health insurance.

Anthropic does not offer its models everywhere. AI features may not be used from a country or region that Anthropic does not support, or by an organisation owned or controlled from one.

5. Using the service properly

Do not use the service:

  • to break the law or anyone's rights;
  • to send spam or malicious code;
  • to probe, attack or overload it or anyone else's systems, or to get around its access controls and reach data you were not given;
  • to copy, resell or give others access to it, beyond what your organisation's agreement allows.

Security research is welcome by arrangement. Write to us before you start.

6. Fees

Paid plans are billed as your organisation's order or invoice says, plus any taxes that apply. Prices on this site can change; a change to what your organisation pays takes effect only as its agreement allows.

7. What belongs to us

Mechane's software, name and design belong to Alchemy Lab. Your organisation may use the service while its subscription lasts, and nothing in these terms gives anyone a right to the software beyond that, unless an agreement with us says so.

If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything for it.

8. Availability

We work to keep the service available and secure, and we tell customers about planned work that affects them. Unless your organisation's agreement includes a service level, we do not promise that the service will always be available or free of errors.

9. Suspension and ending

Your organisation can stop using the service as its order allows. We may suspend or end access that breaks these terms, puts the service or other people at risk, or that the law requires us to end. Where we can, we will say why first.

10. Disclaimers and liability

To the fullest extent the law allows: the website and the service are provided without warranties of any kind beyond those your organisation's agreement gives; we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for lost profits or lost data; and our total liability for anything connected with the service is limited to what your organisation paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim. Some places do not allow some of these limits, and there they apply only as far as the law permits.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which The Alchemy Lab LLC is organised, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.

12. Changes

If these terms change, the new version will be posted here with a new date. For a change that matters to customers, we will tell them before it takes effect. Using the service after a change means accepting it.
